A bat­tery cycled once a day for self-con­sump­tion typ­i­cal­ly out­lasts one cycled mul­ti­ple times dai­ly for aggres­sive time-of-use arbi­trage or fre­quent VPP participation.

Does Stay­ing Con­nect­ed to the Inter­net Actu­al­ly Mat­ter for Your Warranty?

For at least one major brand, yes, direct­ly and explicitly.

Tes­la’s offi­cial Pow­er­wall war­ran­ty doc­u­ment states that to receive the full 10-year war­ran­ty, the unit must remain con­nect­ed to the inter­net to receive remote firmware updates. If that con­nec­tion laps­es for an extend­ed peri­od and Tes­la can’t reach the own­er, the war­ran­ty may be reduced to as lit­tle as 4 years. It’s an easy detail to miss at instal­la­tion and a gen­uine­ly impor­tant one to know, since it isn’t unique to a faulty unit, it’s a con­di­tion of the war­ran­ty itself.

A ful­ly installed solar and bat­tery sys­tem in Aus­tralia today typ­i­cal­ly runs $8,000 to $17,000 before the fed­er­al rebate is applied, depend­ing on brand and capac­i­ty.
